Say hi to your mother for me

Laaaaadies! I hope you all enjoy my Valentine's offering to you. I was going to do a mix of all sex songs for the holiday, but I was afraid someone might get offended. Plus I just couldn't find enough songs. So instead, I present "Forget boys, my heart belongs to music."

"Closer," by Kings of Leon
What do I love more than vampires? A sexy boy singing about vampires. It's a no-brainer. "Open up your eyes. You keep on crying, baby, I'll bleed you dry."

"Explode," by Uh Huh Her
Very sensual song, though it may be about a prostitute. Oh, well. It's hot and I love to sing along.

"Love Lockdown," by Kanye West
I'm usually not crazy about distorted music/singing, but it's impossible not to like this song. And there's no swearing! It's hip-hop lite! :) "I'm in love with you, but the vibe was wrong and that haunted me all the way home."

"Blood Bank," by Bon Iver
So, obviously, I love Bon Iver. And you should, too. While I can't say I've bonded with all of his newest CD, this one makes me so happy. "I'm in love with your honor. I'm in love with your cheeks."

"Hologram," by Katie Herzig
Pop song about playing hard to get. It's fun! Sing! Dance! "But, oh, if you don't want me, though, I'll only want you more. I fall in love with hard to get."

"Academia," by Sia
Explains a relationship through her strengths, literature/words, and his strengths, math. Beautiful song with great lyrics. "I'm a binary code that you cracked long ago, but to you I'm just a novel that you wish you never wrote."

"On Your Birthday," by Jim Boggia
He finds a photograph of the one who got away, and it sparks all these memories. Pretty song, and the vocals remind me of Eagle-Eye Cherry. Stay tuned for the last 4 seconds--there's a surprise!

"Lost Coastlines," by Okkervil River
I could listen to this song over and over again. I'm not a music critic. I know what I like and what I don't. This one never fails to suck me in. It's just gorgeous. And when he starts to sing "OOOOooooOOOOhhhh!" it reminds me of Peter Pan crowing. "Cause who said sailing is fine? leaving behind all the faces that I might replace if I tried on that long ride, looking deep inside but I don't want to look so deep inside yet."

"Violet Stars Happy Hunting," by Janelle Monae
Umm... I don't know how to explain this one. Someone said it's the singer's alien-cyborg alter ego. Just ... Give it a chance, will you?

"Leader," by Phantom Planet
Carina already used "Do the Panic," which is another favorite off "Raise the Dead." So I present with this little ditty (what?). Its fun, poppy exterior belies darker meaning in its lyrics, but I still love it.

"You, Me, & The Bourgeoisie," by The Submarines
You'll likely recognize this one from a commercial. "Everyday I wake up, I choose love, I choose light and I try, it's too easy just to fall apart."

"A&E," by Goldfrapp
Kind of a sad song, really, which I take to be about someone OD'ing as a possible means to get their loved one's attention. But the singing and the melody just remind of another place and time, and I think that's really why I put it on the mix. "I was feeling lonely feeling blue, feeling like I needed you and I hoped you'd call. I hoped you'd see me."

"As Tall As Cliffs," by Margot and the Nuclear So & So's
Every one of their songs tells a story. I'm really enamored with artists who can do that. "I tell tales tall as cliffs. You've got a lisp. Kid, those things are hard to miss." Just missing the cut for the CD was their song "A Children's Crusade on Acid." Love that one too!

"Evil Urges," by My Morning Jacket
Oh, mama. So hot. Want to touch. Basically, it's about sex. I would've definitely put this on an all-sex-songs CD, along with their "Touch Me I'm Going To Scream." Delish.
