with all your lies you're still very lovable

1. +In a Dress (Mary’s Misinterpretation of Dylan) by Number 1, I Love You - Wait for it…wait for it…ahhhhh…there you go. I love this song. Sounds like a bunch of friends sitting on a back porch strumming away on a hot summer night. Found this gem on cdbaby.com. The whole ep is amazing! Favorite Line: Like a kiss worn on her cheek the rest of the week she didn’t speak.

2. Midnight Vignette by Evangelicals - Boy, does that RC Cola know her music! She recommended this group on her blog and I skanked them off of her. Kinda has a British vibe to it… Favorite Line: So in the dark you told me you are the one.

3. +For Emma by Bon Iver - He’s my lover. Not really, but I wouldn’t mind it. Real name is Justin Vernon. He’s from Wisconsin. Fake name (misspelled on purpose) means “Good Winter” in French. If I could’ve I would’ve just copied his whole album and passed it on to all of you. The way this song sounds is the way I want my next relationship to be like – hauntingly beautiful. P.S. Did I mention I’m seeing Bon Iver April 14th? Me-double-ow! Favorite Line: Running home, running home, running home, running home.

4. +Cast a Hook in Me by Laura Veirs - No mix of mine would be complete without a song from Ms. Veirs. I like that she sings about the sea and nature. Favorite Line: Like a falling leaf who keeps her green I’m turning bright in the sea.

5. *Rich Girls by The Virgins - Sweet, sweet disco sounds. This song makes me want to get up and shake what my mama gave me (which isn’t much). And I like boys singing falsetto. Favorite Line: You’ve got a lovely way with words. Must be the way you see the world.

6. *When Your Mind’s Made Up by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova - From the movie “Once.” I like the rawness of the music.

7. You’ve Got Yr. Cherry Bomb by Spoon - I *heart* Spoon.

8. Be Good or Be Gone by Fionn Regan - Fionn has a sweet sadness to his voice. I sing the chorus to Stella when she’s naughty. Yeah, I’m the crazy cat lady. Favorite Line: I read to you on Saturdays.

9. Seward Park by Grand Hallway - Another cdbaby find. I’m a big fan of piano (hence the Ben Folds obsession). It was a toss up between this song and their “Darling, Wife” song. Good album. Favorite Line: I know you’ve got scars. The deep ones. The kind that refuses to fade.

10. Piano Song by Meiko - Again, cdbaby. She’s a waitress in New York. Her entire album is nice. Kinda Norah Jones-ish. I love her hidden song about a hot dog with the line – “You and onions make me cry.” Ha! Favorite Line: I try so hard not to show this side of me.

11. The Girl You Lost to Cocaine by Sia - Her latest album is awesome, although I loved her singing with Zero 7 also. This song has a catchy chorus.

12. Paper Aeroplane by Angus & Julia Stone - Favorite Line: I spilled the ink across the land trying to spell your name.

13. *The Devil Never Sleeps by Iron & Wine - Again – good piano. I like the layered lyrics and back ground lyrics.

14. Wait by Ben Kweller - Actually a Beatles song, but of course you already knew that! I love, love, love Ben Kweller. He always sounds so effortless when he sings. I also like that he stays true to the song…doesn’t make it into something unrecognizable.

15. Lake Shore Drive by The Innocence Mission - Another beautifully sad song. Makes me think of driving by Lake Superior on a sad sunny Sunday afternoon. Favorite Line: I tell myself now things I would have told to you, the smallest plan, the greatest news.

16. California Stars by Billy Bragg & Wilco - I can’t not have a Wilco song on this mix. You will all love Wilco by the time I and April are done with you. You will or else! These lyrics are by Woody Guthrie, but put to music by Wilco. This song gives me goose bumps. Favorite Line: I’d love to feel your hand touching mine and tell me why I must keep working on.

*indicates pg-13 type swears. watch out for the kiddies.
+indicates that I highly recommend the entire album
